May 2007
Dear Brethren,
We bring you greetings once again from the
heart of Tennessee. It has been a busy and a
hot month. We have not had any rain in quite
some time. We did get 10,000 copies of our
newspaper sent out this month. We received
one response from it. We received a call
from a lady in Portland Tennessee who has
palsy and therefore she cannot drive nor can
she go anywhere without assistance. I sent
Danada to pick her up for one of our Sunday
services. It took Danada forty minutes to
get there. She was a very nice lady, but
because of the long drive and her mental
state we decided it probably was not very
safe to pick her up anymore and travel such
a long distance with her. Forty minutes one
way is quite a trip to pick someone up for
church. She seemed to have some emotional
problems. Other than this we have not had
any new visitors or responses from the
newspaper.
I have started a new job this month to try
and supplement our income because of the
rising prices of everything. Danada and I
were talking the other day about how
starting wages at jobs have not increased
much over the past ten years, but the price
of homes has doubled, gas has tripled and a
gallon of milk is $4.00. I am not sure if my
new job is going to help me or hurt me (ha,ha).
I am working for a real estate company. It
is flexible in a lot of ways, but I do not
make any money unless I actually sell
something. Please pray for us that God will
use this to His glory and honor and work it
all out.
I gave up fighting with our riding lawn
mowers and purchased one from Sears this
month. I have an old mower that we used all
last year to mow our yard and the mission
property, but it just beat it to death and
it started falling apart.
Then we had another old mower that was given
to us, but it also kept breaking down on me.
A few weeks ago I was mowing with it and one
of the bearings disintegrated on it. When it
did a pulley that was attached to it shot
out the
side of the mower and across the lawn. It
takes several hours to do the lawn work at
the mission without working on the equipment
so I figured it was time to get a new one.
We had the privilege of preaching at the Big
Creek Baptist church this month in Wayne,
West Virginia. We had a great time there and
we very much appreciated the good time of
fellowship as well as the hospitality that
we were shown during our visit. We also
preached at the Grace Baptist Church in
Science Hill, Kentucky where my father
pastors. It was great to have some
fellowship with my own family as well as
lots of old friends.
We will close for now. Please continue to
pray for the work here as we desire to see
it grow.
By His Grace,
Bro. Shawn Berry & Family
